Brother's Best Friend
A romance trope where the heroine falls for her own older brother's best friend — the guy who's been crashing on their couch and eating their mom's cooking since high school. Why readers love it
The pull is the loyalty-oath violation: he made a promise to her brother (hands off, or else) and breaks it anyway, which reads as devotion once the book earns it rather than disrespect. Readers get a protective-but-forbidden hero who already has her family's trust, a built-in caught-sneaking-around plot engine, and higher stakes than a stranger romance because getting caught costs him a friendship, not just a shot with her.
