A romance where one half of the pairing is literally or metaphorically angelic, a divine being, guardian spirit, or someone so radiantly good they read as otherworldly. The human or mortal partner usually falls first and has to reckon with loving something too pure, too powerful, or not quite human.
Why readers love it
The pull is the tension between reverence and desire: wanting to ruin something holy, or being the one fallen creature an angel chooses anyway. Readers get the delicious clash of sacred duty against earthly hunger, plus the fantasy of being loved by something that has seen every soul in existence and picked yours.
